Drop an audit file from your Dutch accounting package here and get a formatted Excel workbook back: every journal line, a trial balance, a per-period overview, chart of accounts, relations, journals and a sheet of checks. The key figures also appear on screen straight away, so it doubles as a free XAF viewer. Free, no account, and everything runs entirely in your browser.
or choose it on your computer. The conversion starts right away.
Stays on your computer. The file is read in your browser and the Excel workbook is created there as well. Even for files of several GB.
Easyclose turns the same audit file into a profit and loss statement, balance sheet, year comparison, dashboards and a month-end close, with drill-down to the journal line. Create a free account: your file will be waiting to be imported. Or look around the demo with fictional figures first.
From accounting package to Excel in three steps. No installation, no registration, no queue.
In your accounting package, create an XAF audit file for the financial year. The function is usually called Export audit file or XAF export, or sits under Tax authority. You get a file with the .xaf extension.
The converter reads the file in your browser, checks the totals and builds the Excel workbook. An average administration takes a few seconds; 150,000 lines about half a minute.
Nine sheets with real numbers and real dates, filters on every column and a frozen header row. Ready to pivot, filter and link to your own reports.
Not a raw dump of XML fields, but the layout a controller or auditor would build themselves. Debit and credit have their own columns, accounts and relations carry their names, and the trial balance balances.
| Sheet | Contents |
|---|---|
| Journal lines | Every line: journal, entry number, period, date, account with name, description, debit, credit, balance, relation with name, invoice and document reference, cost centre and project. |
| Trial balance | Per account the opening balance, movements and closing balance, each in a debit and a credit column, with a total row. Balances to the cent. |
| Per period | Per account the net movement per period (month), from opening to closing balance. The basis for a monthly overview or pivot table. |
| Opening balance | The opening balance as supplied by the package (XAF 3.x). If the opening is booked as entries in period 0, the converter treats those as the opening and counts nothing twice. |
| Chart of accounts | All ledger accounts with type (balance sheet or P&L), number of lines, debit, credit and balance. |
| Relations | Customers and suppliers with type, number of lines, debit, credit and balance. |
| Journals | Per journal the type (bank, cash, purchases, sales, general), the number of entries and lines and the totals. |
| Checks | The result of every check, with an explanation. See below. |
| Info | Company, financial year, package, XAF version, counts and totals, plus a note that the file was converted in the browser. |
An audit file is not always complete or consistent. The converter therefore recounts everything and shows the outcome on screen and on the Checks sheet, so you know what you have before you start calculating.
Across all journal lines together, and per entry. An entry that does not balance is named.
Is there an opening balance, does it balance, and is the opening not also booked as entries in period 0? If it is, it is not counted twice.
Is there a gap in the sequence of months between the first and the last entry? Then a period is probably missing from the export.
The package writes the number of lines and the totals into the file header. The converter checks whether they match the contents.
Does every line refer to an account from the chart of accounts? Unknown accounts are counted and shown without a name in the trial balance.
Entries dated outside the financial year are counted. Usually opening or closing entries; sometimes a mistake.
An audit file contains a company's entire administration. It does not belong on an unknown party's server. With this converter that is not a promise but a technical property, and you can verify it yourself.
This page is served with a strict Content-Security-Policy containing connect-src 'none'. That means the browser refuses every connection from this page, even if our own code tried. Check it in the developer tools (F12) under Network: nothing happens during the conversion.
Load the page, switch off your internet connection and convert again. It works exactly the same. The page notices and tells you that you are offline.
This page contains no analytics script and no cookie banner. We do not know who uses the converter or with which file, and that is the point.

Anyone who wants to look at a Dutch administration in Excel without access to the accounting package itself.
A client sends an audit file; you want to filter the entries, draw samples and reconcile the trial balance without uploading the file anywhere first.
Quickly get a general ledger into Excel to build an analysis or pivot table, or to compare figures with another package or year.
You are switching accounting packages, changing bookkeepers, or simply want to see what is in your own administration. The audit file is yours; now you can read it too.
The converter is an introduction. Easyclose itself turns the same audit file into a profit and loss statement, balance sheet, year comparison, budget comparison, dashboards and a month-end close with checks, and consolidates several companies with automatic intercompany reconciliation. There too your file is read in your browser; only the normalised journal lines go to your own secured environment in the EU.
No. The converter runs entirely in your browser. The file is read on your own computer and the Excel workbook is created there too. The page's security policy even forbids the browser from opening any connection, and you can repeat the conversion with Wi-Fi switched off.
XAF stands for XML Audit File, the Dutch standard audit file that virtually every Dutch accounting package can export. It contains the chart of accounts, relations, journals, opening balance and every journal line of a financial year. Since 2025 the current version is XAF 4.0 (from 2027 the only one the Dutch tax authority accepts); the converter reads 4.0, the widely used 3.2 and the old version 2.0.
Yes. The converter is also a free XAF viewer (audit file viewer): as soon as you drop the file in, the screen shows the key figures, monthly charts, the largest accounts and relations, the largest entries and the outcome of the checks. You do not need Excel for that; download the workbook only when you want to filter or pivot the lines yourself.
Journal lines (every line with account and relation names, debit and credit in separate columns), Trial balance (opening, movements, closing), Per period (net movement per account per month), Opening balance, Chart of accounts, Relations, Journals, Checks and Info. Numbers are real numbers and dates real dates, with filters and a frozen header row.
Up to several GB. The converter reads your file block by block, so size is no longer a practical limit; the audit file of an average SME is 5 to 50 MB. Above Excel's limit of 1,048,576 rows per sheet, the converter splits the entries across several sheets (Journal lines 1, Journal lines 2, and so on).
Yes. Because nothing is uploaded, no third party processes the data and no data processing agreement is required. Above you will find a short explanation to forward to your compliance officer, including how to verify yourself that no connection is made.
The converter is free and asks for no account, no email address and no cookie consent. Easyclose offers it as an introduction: anyone who then wants to see their figures as reports can import the same file into Easyclose.
An XAF 3.x usually contains a separate opening balance; it goes on the Opening balance sheet and forms the opening column of the trial balance. Some packages (also) book the opening as entries in period 0. The converter recognises that: if both carry the same amounts, it counts them once. If there is no opening at all, it says so.
With any package that can export an XAF audit file, including Exact Online, AFAS, e-Boekhouden, Twinfield, SnelStart, King, Unit4, Visma and AccountView. The function is usually called Export audit file or XAF export.
